On April 29, 2016, the Chief Executive in Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region approved the reclamation project in the northern waters of the Hong Kong International Airport on the 29th. The main purpose of the reclamation project is to provide the required land to expand the Hong Kong International Airport into a three-runway system to meet the long-term air traffic needs of Hong Kong.

The construction cost of the third runway expansion is approximately HK$141.5 billion, of which the cost of reclamation works is approximately HK$56.2 billion. The reclamation project includes geological improvement and seabed filling; construction of seawalls, entry lights and beacons; and diversion of an existing group of approximately 6 km long 11 kV submarine cables.

According to the AA, the current dual-runway system is close to the actual operational capacity ceiling. To meet the rapidly growing air traffic demand, the construction of the three-runway system project cannot be delayed.

In a few months, the plan was finally implemented properly. According to preliminary statistics, there will be more than 120 sets of pneumatic butterfly valves produced by Gaocheng Valve, which will be applied to the drainage system of the third runway reclamation project at Hong Kong Airport.
